POSTPONEMENT COSTS CASH

East Stirlingshire FC  has been left thousands of pounds out of pocket due to the postponement of the opening Third Division match of the season against Livingston.

The Scottish Football League instructed the game be called off after the West Lothian club lodged an appeal against a decision to relegate  it to the Third Division.

But the loss of revenue will hit Shire hard, explained vice-chairman, Spencer Fearn.

"It may cost us around £5,000, " he said. "We still have to pay the players and we were expecting a crowd of maybe 800-1000."

Spencer has again expressed sympathy for Livingston's plight. The club was demoted by the League Management Committee on Wednesday for breaching rules on entering administration.

"In most other leagues teams would have had points deducted, not relegated to the bottom division," he said.
